Lauer Rice Honored by the World Federation of Hungarian Veterans for Work Commemorating the Hungarian Revolution of 1956

Gold Medal of Merit Presented to Lauer Rice at Charity Ball

Cleveland, OH - January 27, 2007 - Andrea Lauer Rice, CEO and Founder of Lauer Learning, was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit by the World Federation of Hungarian Veterans (MHBK) for her work to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the1956 Hungarian Revolution. The honor recognized Lauer Rice's recently published books “56 Stories” and “56-os Tortenet”, launching the www.FreedomFighter56.com oral history website and publishing FF56!, an educational computer game for teens about the Revolution of 1956.

Lauer Learning, a multimeda educational company based in Roswell, Georgia, creates innovative, interactive products to teach children about foreign languages, cultures and historic events through experiential learning.

“I am honored to be receiving this award from the World Federation of Hungarian Veterans, especially during this significant anniversary year and alongside this group of honorees who have all done so much for the community. It is an indication that Lauer Learning is on the right track and I look forward to continuing my work to find innovative ways to teach the next generation about culture, history and foreign languages.” said Lauer Rice.

Two prominent leaders in the Cleveland Hungarian community, Andras and Andrea Lazar were also awarded the Gold Medal for their work in the Cleveland-based Hungarian Heritage Museum and local Hungarian-language radio program. Edith Lauer, co-editor of “56 Stories” and “56-os Tortenet,” and the Chair Emeritus of the Hungarian American Coalition and Laszlo Bojtos, the Honorary Hungarian Consul for Cleveland, were presented with the 50th Anniversary Memorial Cross and Crown for their long-term support of the Hungarian community and their significant efforts in commemorating the 1956 anniversary. Dr. Laszlo Simonyi, President of the MHBK presented the honors.

The 54th Annual Black Tie Charity Ball was attended by 200 guests, who saw two Hungarian debutantes in their debut, four palotas dancers and a special performance by Hungarian folk dancers. The John Carroll University ROTC Honor Guard presented the colors.

In addition to leaders of the Cleveland Hungarian community, Hungarian American Coalition members attended, including: Jack and Ildiko Korossy, Anne Bader, George and Sandy Pogan, Ted Horvath, Edith Lauer and Lauer Rice.
